The Voyager Mission

Project Brief

The project aimed to create an engaging and educational resource for children about the outer planets of our solar system. Using a children's book style, the focus was on presenting scientific information about the four outer planets—Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune—collected through the Voyager satellites. The book features infographics and hand-drawn illustrations to make the information accessible and fun for young readers. Additionally, an accompanying 3D animation was developed to visually depict the journey of the Voyager spacecrafts, allowing audiences to explore the planets and their moons while considering the potential for human survival beyond Earth.

Concept

The concept centred on making complex space science easily understandable and engaging for children. The children's book combined vibrant hand-drawn illustrations with simplified infographics to explain key facts about the outer planets, such as their size, atmosphere, and moons. By using a visual and narrative-driven approach, the book aimed to capture children's curiosity about the solar system. The 3D animation complemented this by offering an immersive journey through space, showing the Voyager spacecrafts' mission in an exciting way. The animation also served as a visual tool to provoke thoughts about the possibility of life or human survival on other planets.

Solution

To educate and inspire young minds about the solar system, the solution involved developing both a visually appealing children's book and an interactive 3D animation. The book used colourful, child-friendly illustrations and concise infographics to break down scientific data about the four outer planets, making learning enjoyable for kids. The 3D animation brought the Voyager spacecrafts’ journey to life, offering viewers a dynamic experience of exploring outer space. It visually showcased the planets and their environments while posing questions about human exploration and survival. The combination of these elements created an informative yet captivating way to teach children about space.
